Spiritual Journey - The Road To Spiritual Healing-Part 1

Spiritual Journey

In today's world, there is so much fear, illness, despair, bereavement, crime, apathy, etc. Whether we accept it or not, the condition(s) of our world will affect all of us at one point or another. Therefore, in order to survive these difficult times, it is essential to find ways to maintain ourselves spiritually balanced.

My method of keeping myself spiritually balanced or healthy is by taking spiritual journeys- a gradual passing from one state of mind to a much healthier state. These journeys have provided a means to release my inner emotional pain, as well as continue the healing process. Besides being extremely healing, they are also liberating.

Even though some individuals experience their spiritual journeys through prayer, or other means, I mainly experience them through travel, artwork and meditation. Below is an account of one of my journeys.

Approximately four years ago, my mother crossed over to the spirit world. Apart from being my mother, she was my best friend. Even though I am a believer in life after death, I could not let go of the vast emotional pain and void I felt inside. I felt as though the light of my soul had been turned off. I was an empty shell pretending to be alive. All I wanted to do was sleep, and wake up to discover that it was all a bad dream- click here to read Spiritual Experience - Saying Goodbye Is Never Easy.

One day, while doing household chores, I came across a book that a friend had given me three years earlier. He had highly recommended it, and suggested that I read it. I took the book, thanked him and placed it in my bookcase. For three years, the book had been hidden and forgotten. Now, without any palpable explanation, the book had reappeared. I picked it up and read the title- A Healer's Journey by Sree Chakravarti.

The book is an inspiring autobiography about an Indian woman's exceptional healing gift. I read a few pages and was captivated by her storytelling. I proceeded to read on. Then, something happened that transformed my world.

It was a chapter devoted to Sai Baba, an Indian Saint- click here to read Sai Baba -A Spiritual-Healer- which turned my life around. I was perplexed as to why I was so enchanted by this man. I kept reiterating, who is Sai Baba, and why do I want to know more? I must have read the chapter three or four times.

A week had passed, and I could not stop thinking of Sai Baba. I felt an overwhelming impulse to go to Shirdi, India; and I needed to go immediately. Without any hesitation, I got a visa, packed my suitcase, grabbed my passport and American Express ("don't leave home without it"), and headed for India.
