Creating Art -A Personal Journey

Custom Search

Art, according to Wikipedia, "refers to a diverse range of human activities, creations, and expressions that are appealing or attractive to the senses or have some significance to the mind of an individual."

To me, painting is a method that I utilize to express my inner feelings, explore the various levels of spirituality, connect to past lives memories and heal emotional pain.

Through my artwork, I have found emotional comfort and spiritual strength to carry on my earthy mission.

I am not a Michelangelo, Picasso or Da Vinci. My paintings are not masterpieces, and will never be exhibited in a museum. I am simply a person who likes to create paintings that are appealing and meaningful to me. As a child, I was always drawing. I remember drawing pictures of Popeye and other cartoon characters. I would spend hours drawing, and enjoying every minute.

When I entered college, I started taking painting classes- a total of five. I recall two of my professors as being egotistic. I could sense that they were not into teaching. I assumed that they had no other alternative other than to teach. I remember saying to myself that they were angry and frustrated individuals who were unsuccessful artists, and needed to criticize others in order to feel superior. The experience was a complete waste of time.

Out of the five professors, only one was a true educator. He had the ability to see one's weaknesses and strengths, and convey them in a positive and productive way. He encouraged his students to do their very best- whatever that was. More importantly, he taught us that painting should be fun.

He was a wonderful human being. Although I wanted to take more of his classes, he was no longer available. He had resigned the following semester.

The other professors had good intentions, but did not possess the ability to bring out the students' creative abilities.

I commenced painting on my own. The more I painted, the more I learned from my mistakes. Later on, I embarked on creating a different kind of artwork. I started incorporating pieces of glass onto the paintings. I was creating artwork that was appealing to me.

In time, I started to see the link between my paintings and my spiritual path. As mentioned in previous pages, my paintings have played an important role in my spiritual development. Each painting has provided some level of spiritual enlightenment and healing. Go to Spiritual Journey - A Healing Experience Part2 for more information.

Creating artwork is something that everyone can do. Releasing or tapping into your creative abilities can assist you to heal inner wounds, calm the mind as well as the body, and/or connect to the inner self.

In regards to creativity, a person should not allow anyone to dictate what he/she can or can not do. It is up to you to determine. Some people will say, "...that's awful." Their remarks are meaningless. The important thing is how it makes you feel. Exploring your creative side is a personal journey.

So, pick up a pencil or brush and begin your creative journey. See where it takes you, and what emotions are released.
