Spiritual Dreams -A Spiritual Visit From Yemaya
Spiritual dreams are one of the distinct methods employed by spirits to communicate with us. They do so for numerous reasons- to warn us about an unforeseen danger, give us comfort and hope in times of despair, or just to let us know that they are all right. Have you ever had a spiritual dream about a loved one that you felt was so real? I have, and the experience was astounding. Approximately, a month or two, after returning from India, I had a dream in which my mother appeared. She said that she was all right, and for me not to worry. We held hands, talked, hugged and kissed. Every gesture and action that occurred in the dream felt so real. Upon awakening, the sensation of the presence of my mother remained with me for several hours. Although my conscious mind kept telling me that it was just a dream, another part of me felt it was much more than that. By the end of the day, I had no doubt in my mind that my mother had used my dream as a vehicle to visit and communicate with me. I was convinced that it was a spiritual dream. Besides loved ones, spiritual masters, angels, saints, and spirit guides have been known to appear in our dreams. They use our dreams to convey messages, guidance, and hope (to attain more on spiritual dreams and messages go to Spiritual Journal). According to the bible, Joseph had a dream in which an angel appeared and foretold of Mary's physical condition. In another dream, an angel warned him to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus to avoid the, "massacre of the innocents." The bible contains many stories in which spiritual beings have utilized dreams as a medium to transmit messages. Several years ago, I had an interesting and unforgettable spiritual dream. I dreamt that I was on a beach staring out at the horizon. The ocean was very still and peaceful. It appeared that I was the only one there. From a distance, a diminutive luminous object appeared. It began to move slowly towards me. The closer it got, the more apparent it became. It was the figure of Jesus Christ. As it continued to move closer to me, the figure of Jesus Christ had transformed into a lovely woman. She had long black shiny hair. Her dress was long and white; and the top of her head was embellished with a large brilliant star. Her arms were extended out with the hands closed, as though holding some object. As the figure of the woman continued to move closer to me, a voice from nowhere said, "Yemaya." Moreover, the voice said for me to make a necklace of blue and crystal beads. By the end of the message, I woke up. Even though I was fully awake, I could hear a voice far away repeating the same message, "...make a necklace of blue and crystal beads." Although the spiritual dream was extremely vivid, the significance was beyond my comprehension. Without much thought, I got up, dressed and headed to a nearby botanica- a religious good store where one can purchase spiritual items imported from all over the world. As I walked in, I immediately noticed two large jars on the counter. One jar contained the blue colored beads, and the other contained the crystal beads. Next to the jars was a medium-size picture of a woman who had a strong resemblance to the lady from my dream. The woman in the picture was Yemaya. After that day, I have gone back to the botanica, and have not seen the jars with the blue and crystal beads. One day, out of curiosity, I asked the storeowner about the beads. To my surprise, she said they did not carry them any more. Although I thought it was odd, I did not enquire any further. Upon the completion of the necklace, I had an intense desire to paint a picture of the lady from my dream- Yemaya. When the painting was done, I felt tremendous joy. It felt as if a new friend had entered my life. Although some individuals would find it strange, I felt that the necklace and painting provided me with a sense of being well-protected. It was not until a few years later that the mystery of the dream was unraveled. While on vacation in Brazil, I had the good fortune of going to a Candomble ceremony in Bahia, Brazil. Candomble is a religion in which its members worship African deities (for more information visit Orishas or Chango). ![Yemaya Yemaya]() | | Yemaya |
As I entered the ceremonial gathering place, I noticed an enormous painting of Yemaya. During the middle of the ceremony, a woman dressed in all white with a white headdress and several long beaded necklaces approached me and started to talk. Although my Portuguese was extremely awkward, my translator was very helpful in relating the message. The woman said that Yemaya was protecting me. Furthermore, she said, Yemaya wanted me to wear a necklace for protection against negative energy. It would be a spiritual shield. She described me as being a sponge absorbing the negative energy of other individuals. When I showed her the necklace, which I had in my bag, she smiled and blessed me. | | | | Religious Ceremony in Bahia, Brazil | Arrival of Saint | Woman In A Trance |
Prior to the dream, I noticed that every time I would be around negative individuals I would feel depleted. It was as though my energy was being pulled out of me. Soon afterward, I would develop a low-grade headache. When I started using the necklace, things began to change. I have worn the necklace to several gatherings. I have felt well protected and not drained after encounters with extremely difficult and confrontational individuals. Click here for an update on Yemaya necklace. As for the painting, it has given others and me peace, hope and assurance. Everyone who enters my parents' apartment sees the painting, which is in display in my parents’ entrance hallway. One day, while visiting my parents, I noticed my parents' neighbor standing in front of the painting. She appeared to be praying or talking to the painting. Intrigued by the woman's behavior, I questioned her. She said that she was asking, "La Senora" (which means lady in Spanish), to help her with her illness. Moreover, she said that every time she would come over for a visit and pray to "La Senora," she would feel a sense of inner peace and well-being. In addition, she said, "I feel a sensation of spiritual healing taking place inside me." Several years later, I developed an urge to paint another picture of Yemaya. The idea was to paint a picture of Yemaya and keep in my apartment. Both paintings have given me a sense of calmness and joy. Although many years have gone by, I feel that she continues to protect me in many ways. Whether you believe or not, spiritual dreams are very important. Even though the meaning may not come to you immediately, it is important to write the information down and save it for future reference. At first, the above-mentioned dream did not make sense to me. However, in time, it began to unfold and reveal its true meaning. My spiritual dreams have consoled me, given me hope, and warned me of unforeseen mishaps. Never underestimate your spiritual dreams. They contain treasures beyond our imagination.
