Spiritual experiences occur when you least expect them. Recently, I received an e mail from a friend who I have not seen in years, but communicate often by e mail. Out of nowhere, she wrote me an e mail wanting to know if I did portrait painting, and if so, would I do a portrait of her son who had passed away several years.
“Is she kidding me…professionals do portrait painting, I am simply an amateur," I said to myself.
Being a curious person, I asked her if I could see a photo of her son. All these years knowing her, I never once saw a picture of him. When I got the photo, I found it to be interesting. It was a boy of approximately nine years old with a pleasant smile.
Without much thought, I picked up my brush and proceeded to paint. After thirty minutes, I had painted a face. It was not a face of a little boy, rather it was a face of a much older boy. Immediately, I e mailed her the painting of the older boy, and waited for her reaction.
The next day, she wrote telling me how she could not believe how much he looked like her brother. Furthermore, she always wanted to know how her son would look as a young man.
A few days later, while meditating, I was directed to include her father in the painting. Her father, who had passed away many years ago, was an important figure in her life. When I related the new development, she was thrilled. Immediately, she e mailed me a photo of her father.
As I continued to paint the portrait, I found myself including her dog, which had recently passed away. Not questioning why, I continued painting.
During the process, I kept her abreast of the development of the painting sending her e mails of the unfinished painting. To my surprise, she has kept each one of the e mails.
Recently, I received an e mail from her expressing her feelings about the painting. She said, “All I can say is that I feel a closeness to them like never before. Also, My son is on my mind more then ever. If it wasn’t for you I would have never enjoyed seeing my son at an older age. He reminds me so much of my brother. Thank you.”
To be continued.
